Verdicts are judged against a dated cached snapshot of the publisher's own series. A snapshot older than the series' max_age_days is refused as unknown/snapshot_stale rather than served as current. Payloads carry the snapshot's as_of, retrieved_at and upstream sha256 so a verdict can be audited.
